It seems like yesterday that I was what people would refer to as a headphone maniac. As Xin would put it "you have a predilection..."
Just prior to taking this current extended break from the headphone reviewing scene, I was in the process of reviewing the Final Audio Sonorous VI.
And I pleasantly find myself writing about Sonorous VI today. Whoo hoo!
I thought long and hard to come up with a pun I would use in the title of that unfinished review. So as to not waste energy already expended, here I will start my article with this:
"Sonorous VI is your Final Audio."
Plug in the headphone to the Mytek Brooklyn Dac+, get some coffee, instinctively cue Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon and it's show time.
I was so fatigued of this seminal Album during my time as a reviewer having heard it so often. Yet, with the Sonorous VI, 42 minutes and 50 second of absolute bliss. It was like my first serious headphone experience all over again. The armature drivers used in these headphones reveal every iota of detail and deliver all the nuances without the brittle sharpness that may be encountered in some in-ear monitors.
Human beings have terrible auditory memory, and with these headphones I heard details long forgotten and non-existent in my stereo system. This is what good headphones like the Sonorous VI do – portray all the detail. Not only that, the studio-quality armature drivers reduced the stress placed on the dynamic elements of this design and result in a greater sense of impact and dynamics more than most headphones of just dynamic driver design and come very close to planar magnetics. Nothing crowded, noting lost between those shiny titanium drivers and my ears.
The Sonorous VI's physically have some weight to it, and rightfully so, considering the high-quality metal parts used by Final Audio. It is truly built like a tank and the only headphone other than Beyerdynamics that I will confidently challenge my friend to run over with his motorcycle. Perhaps, I exaggerate a little, just a tiny bit…
The Final Audio Sonorous VI is truly a piece of art.
There may not be a better headphone out there at this price point. And for you and me, the Sonorous VI could very well be our Final Audio.
Hmmm... now, do I go back to loudspeakers or stay with headphones? Hard to decide… Why not both?
